Lack of Sleep Effects

Ever wonder how lack of sleep affects your body? Sure, you think you’re young and energetic why not pull all night study sessions and catch up on sleep later.

The fact is that sleep allows your body to refuel and has many factors on your short and long term health. It is easy for one to think that they can catch up on sleep the next day but in reality it only wears your body down and AGES YOU FASTER! Who wants to get old before their time?? One night of dis-altered sleep can throw your body’s chemical balance off and cause fatigue for the next few days.

It has also been shown that lack of sleep leads to weight gain, heart disease, and cancer. Lack of sleep throws your body’s hormones off which can lead to increase or decrease in weight.

Every person needs a different amount of sleep ranging from seven to ten hours. The best way to determine how much sleep you need is to test this on the weekends or a few days when you do not need to set the alarm. Go to bed around ten and then sleep until you wake up on your own.

After you determine how many hours your body needs then adjust your bedtime accordingly. After a while you can get to bed early enough that you will not even need an alarm to wake you up. That’s how you know you’re rested!

If you have trouble falling asleep try drinking milk of decaf tea. Avoid staying in the computer or watching TV because these medias stimulate the brain instead of preparing it to rest. Instead relax with a book or take a relaxing bath. Bath and body works offers a sleep line that works well - Bath and Body Works Sleep Line.

Always be conscious of the amount of sleep that you are getting and the amount of sleep that your body needs. It will pay off when you are alert in class and allow you to be more productive.
