Saving Money in Creative Ways

Here are some quick and easy tips on saving money

College can be a penny pinching time because working hours are limited and you will also be paying many other costs. Here are some tips and ideas to incorporate into your life to help you save money.

Food and Drink

Skip the vending machines and instead go to the grocery store and stock up on drinks and snacks

Eat with friends and each person bring a dish

Take your lunch and avoid cafeteria or fast food

Don't go to the store hungry -- you will buy extra stuff that you don't need!

Watch how many times you go to starbucks -- its adds up quick!

Stop drinking so much soda...water is cheaper and healthier

Quit drinking...(or buy cheaper alcohol)

Entertainment

Consider staying in some nights with a dvd and popcorn rather than going out

Put aside a certain amount of money for going out and do not go over your limit

Look for coupons to get good deals such as oil changes and grocery stores

When you want to make a purchase check out ebay, overstock.com, froogle, or half.com

Watch how much you tip when you go to restaurants always look for student specials and discounts - your student ID is accepted for discounts in more places than you think

Shopping

Always keep an eye out for sales and specials

Shop at consignment and goodwill for clothes

Frequent dollar stores for consumable products such as toilet paper, pens, pencils, toothpaste, ect.

Credit Cards

Check your current credit card and look for credit cards with no ARP and a low interest rate

Pay credit cards off every month so that you do not get hit with unnecessary interest

Sign up for reward programs track all purchases on your credit card and bank account to always be aware of your finances

Bills

Do not pay bills late so that you do not acquire late fees

Look at all your bills and determine if you can cut any back

Miscellaneous

Go to the student library to print stuff rather than use your ink

Save gas - find some buddies to carpool with

Quit smoking

Cut back on items that you do not NEED

Make the time between hair cuts longer

Watch your cell phone bill for extra minutes and text messages

Send emails and instant messages to keep in touch with friends

Call people after 9 or on weekends to avoid high cell phone bills
