Scheduling Family Time Around School Time

Online learning creates a new hurdle because you will now need to set aside more time for your class obligations. Family members may be used to having you go to a classroom and only completing your studying and assignments at home. Now you will be completing all of your school work at home so you will want to set a designated area and time to yourself.

We recommend that you put up a family calendar so that everyone will be respectful of your school time. If you have kids or a spouse that you know will be away or in bed at certain times, use the quiet time to your advantage.

It is also helpful to explain to the family that this will benefit them in the long run because you will be able to spend more time with them in the future. With less class time you will be able to complete your studies in less time.

It is also important to explain to them that you have a flexible schedule so that you can make their baseball games etc. When you make your schedule be sure to include your family in the planning. This will allow you to let them know that they are a priority.

With online college classes you can schedule your class time around family events. After a few months it will your family to realize the flexibility in your schedule by not having a set class time.

The new flexibility in your schedule does not mean your family can expect you to attend every event that is planned. You must be diligent in sticking to your planned study time and avoid the temptation to procrastinate your class work.

The flexibility in your new schedule can quickly turn against you if you do not maintain consistent study and classwork times. You will find yourself falling farther and farther behind in your coursework. Before you know it, it will be all but impossible to catch up.

Attending an online college can ease your burden and free up your schedule, but you must be diligent to avoid abusing the flexibility an online class offers. Learning to successfully manage your family time and class time now will help you manage a successful career in the future.
